St Sebastian's student wins HelpAge short story writing contest

'Opposition accusations pointless'
'There are two main methods of bringing a Bill in Parliament - as an urgent Bill and as an ordinary Bill. The Bills are brought in Parliament after presenting them to party leaders committee. 'There is no better democracy than this. Therefore the Opposition accusations are pointless, Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said. 'Valentine' makes reappearance
The invasive plant 'Valentine' is once again making inroads into vegetation across the country, posing a threat to plant life, environment lawyer Jagath Gunawardana said. The Valantine plant, known outside Sri Lanka by names ,such as, the Starburst and Philippine Fireworks blooms every year. It derives its name due to the fact that flowering peaks during mid-February, he said.

‘Deceiving’ workers will lead to further strikes: railway unions
All Ceylon Railway General Employees’ Union warns that the government will have to face more strike actions in the future if it continues to “deceive” railway workers. The General Secretary of the union, Sumathipala Manawadu in a release today cited that reason for the sudden strike on Wednesday (01) was due to the government employing various methods to prevent launching of strikes.
